SPRING CLEANING CHALLENGE

Spring has officially started, and the milder temperatures will often inspire us to tackle some cleaning chores. Therefore, I am going to offer a CHALLENGE to my fellow Mystery Chicks and all our readers. Pick one item in your house that you want to clear out, announce it here, and then keep us apprised of your progress. My goal is to get rid of a pile of instructional tapes and CDs. I need to listen to each one, take notes, and then donate it to the lending library kept by Florida Romance Writers for its members use. I’m going to set a modest target of listening to one tape a week, so we’ll see how it goes. Starting next week. We’ll do this for the month of April and hold each other accountable. So who’s going to take up the challenge? What are YOU going to clean out of your closet?

Okay, I'm in. (Gulp) I'd like to clean out my clothes closet. No it's not messy. It's very neat and very organized. It's the clothes themselves that need to be tossed. I can best be described as fashion challenged. So I shop only out of desperation. And since I'll be doing some signing and other promotional events in May and June I'm getting desperate. At the moment my very neat closet has one black skirt, one black dress, one white blouse. two pair of black yoga pants and one pair of shamrock green yoga pants, three black sweaters, one grey sweater, a pair of cropped pants--yes they're black too and lots of stretched out exercise clothes with paint stains. (Writing it all out makes it sound so pathetic.) I need to make a list of new clothes, actually go shopping and then get rid of the old stuff.
Nancy, I'd be happy to change jobs with you.

Nancy, I accept your challenge! Tho' I have to ponder what I want to toss out. Books? No. Shoes? Maybe a few pair. Clothes? Yep, the zeroes that I'll never get into again. Old Christmas decorations? Yes, yes. Oh, heck, I'll just go through everything and clean out as much as I can. How long do I get to do this? A month, at least, right? I'll have to work on things little by little.

Arrrgh! I should clean out everything, but I really need to tackle the linen closet and the bathroom cupboards, which are full of half bottles of shampoo and conditioner, little samples of things. Old makeup. Out, out, out, damn spot, I say quoting Lady McBeth.

By the way, Darlene, good luck with your shopping! I'd see you've got a lot of basic black. It's spring, I'd recommend you jump into some color. The right color can really brighten your face and your outlook. At least for me. But I confess, I also have a closet full of black. Bring a trusted friend along if you like and promise yourself a treat when it's over.

Ellen, I'll come organize your bathroom and your linen closets and you can go shopping for me. And as an added bonus I can make a cool volcano with old bits of shampoo and a few other ingrediants.

I'd much rather go shopping for you than face my closets! And a volcano? Cool!

Okay, I can do this :D I need to clean out my files, not to mention my to-be-filed pile. Maybe a month will be long enough!

Darlene...I don't like shopping either. My advice: Go shopping with someone that actually likes shopping. You can take advantage of their experience and plan a treat together for afterwards.

Darlene, I did clothes last year and donated BAGS full. I tried to sell some of the better items at a consignment store first and that's the last time I'd ever go that route. I didn't even recoup my dry cleaning expense. Sounds like you could use a shopping spree and your upcoming author events give you the perfect excuse!

Susan, it's best to pick one target to clean out so you don't feel overwhelmed. So choose clothes or Christmas decorations and get started!

Ellen, I just gave away all those bottles of shampoo and lotion that I've collected from hotels. An organization I belong to was making up packages to send to U.S. soldiers and these made perfect contributions.
Women in Distress or a local group like that might need toiletries too.

Jackietoo, I don't envy you the filing job. That seems to be neverending! I finally filed a pile of papers two years thick, and now they're building up again. It sure makes you feel good when your desk is neater!
